These images are over 140 years old and are some of the earliest photographic records of Qandahar, Afghanistan.
The city stood at the center of cultural convergence and conflict for over two millennia. It was protected by walls nearly 30 feet thick and 30 feet high.
Today these rare images in our collection are digitized and available online. Visit our #LinkInBio and time travel back to the 1880s to witness what photographer and military doctor Benjamin Simpson was able to capture.
