What’s the difference between excess and abundance? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Excess is the amount of something that is more than necessary. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Abundance just means a large amount but can also be defined in our mindset. It’s recognizing that what already exists and what we have is enough and can offer us what we are looking for. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can find contentment in abundance— in being grateful and resourceful with what we have. It’s hard to do that with excess. Excess is often a distraction and a burden. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To change the cultural mindset, we have to learn to recognize the value of what we already have. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With clothes, this means: - Wearing what you have for longer, outfit repeating - Taking care of your clothes - Mending - Seeking secondhand sources over new - Upcycling and creating new with what already exists - Sharing and borrowing and swapping ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This mindset is more creative, more community-centered, and ultimately more fulfilling. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We have to detach ourselves from the consumer culture that constantly pushes for new and more. This means rethinking excess and recognizing the abundance we already have! Amazing words from sustainable fashion author, designer, and Fashion Revolution co-founder @orsoladecastro
