Thanks to pioneering robotic surgery at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, some patients with recurrent head and neck cancers are experiencing improved survival rates and quicker recovery times. đ¤
Professor Michael Thick underwent treatment for oropharyngeal cancer in 2009 but unfortunately the cancer returned in 2019. He was offered robotic surgery at The Royal Marsden to have the cancer removed. Three years on, Michael remains cancer-free.
He said: âAfter the operation, I was able to go home after just three nights in hospital and my recovery was thankfully quick and uneventful. The surgery was a success, and Iâm now cancer-free.
âWithout The Royal Marsden combining leading-edge research with clinical practice, I wouldnât be here today. Thanks to them, Iâve returned to normality.â
