First created as part of our #AAPISolidarity campaign, @stopdiscriminasian's billboard collaboration with For Freedoms "Asians have been here longer than cowboys" is now on view in “Voice a Wild Dream: Moments in Asian American Art and Activism, 1968-2022” at @oxyarts in LA. The exhibition traces connections—both literal and philosophical—between Asian American collectives that intersected art and community service in past decades and their relationship to current art and mutual aid collectives today. The billboard features an image from artist @kenneth__tam “Silent Spikes,” calling on the history of Chinese railroad workers and the violent erasure of their role connecting the country. The work speaks to the exhibition’s aims to connect a broad history of Asian American organizing and extends the dialogue and themes of the exhibition outside the gallery walls into public space.
