The choice of hawthorn for the design of this cross is thought to be a tribute to John Ruskin's lost love Rose La Touche.
When she died in 1875, Ruskin described her as having 'gone where the hawthorn blossoms go'.
It was presented to the May Queen at Whitelands College - a college to train women as teachers in Anglican National Schools.
