💙in responding and seeing all the sentiments from yesterday‘s post about recognizing that getting sleep in those immediate postpartum days is some thing incredibly necessary, it really struck me that maybe this is the easiest, bottom line, black and white “nugget“ that will help each and everyone of us every single time we vacillate between thinking that a choice is selfish or appropriate (and please note that I will often say that things that other people would consider selfish I will fall on say are actually self preservationist apropos this sentiment): !?️how ‘bout THIS paradigm as a litmus test: “in case of an emergency, PLEASE place your OWN oxygen mask FIRST before trying to help OTHERS!” !!️doesn’t that make PERFECT sense! If you DONT OXYGENATE yourself FIRST you will LITERALLY be unable to aid OTHERS on the flight (BAM, “self preservationist” that will THEN directly help your people as well!) !!️NOW the operating premise as a human COULD be that we are here to make an impact on our surroundings (positive impact dare i say!) BUT that leaves the files wide open for self-sacrifice as the most noble way—HOWEVER if we stick to the OXYGEN MASK paradigm, one can EASILY see that HELPING ONESELF IS ACTUALLY the ONLY way to help others—and it’s so OBVIOUS when it’s something emergent/immediate/acute like this....our chronic/Daily/slow-boil of life makes it murkier of course... 👇what do you think? WHAT paradigm has helped YOU not over-give of yourself to the point of “inability to help others”? #placeyouroxygenmaskonfirst #takecareofyou #onguilt #howtoadult #adultingishard #parentingishard #selfishvsselfcare #selfpreservation #mindsetmatters #womenshealthmatters
