I’ve contributed a chapter to LONDON FEEDS ITSELF, a book of 25 essays by 25 writers about our capital’s overlooked yet cherished food spaces surviving and thriving at the margins of the city. It’s edited by @jonathandnunn and published by @opencitylondon. My essay is about how Punjabi pubs in West (e.g. Prince of Wales in Southall) and Bangladeshi PFCs in East (e.g. Stroudley Grill & PFC in Bow) slyly mirror the mapping of Indian partition’s two sides, as if by design. Both ends of the city and their respective South Asian communities have repurposed staple spaces of English life to serve local people new, evolving takes on authentic dishes. I basically ate tandoori lamb chops, then ate naga wings, then wrote about it. A dream. The cover and accompanying photos were shot by big uncle @hark1karan; it’s designed by Rosa Nussbaum of @studiochristophervictor, and features a fold-out map of London drawn by Harry Darby and Anna Hodgson. Commissioned by @phinharper. Order your copy from the Open City website 🤌🏽
