Extension artists, you’re probably under charging for your services! If you know me, you know I love controversy, and who knew charging your worth would be so controversial! Let’s break down how I get to this price point, and how I see so many hair extension artists selling themselves short! The hair itself: 6 packs (150 grams) of 22 inch wavy ktips is $871.14 after tax My service is about $1425 Let’s talk how we get to this number! The easiest way for me to figure out how to charge for installs is to figure out how much time it takes for you to do a full highlight, and the price of that full highlight. For me, my full highlight is $475, and takes me about 30 minutes to foil. Installing 150 grams of hair takes me about an hour and a half, so I could easily do 3 full highlights in that time. This, making my application pricing about the cost of 3 heads of full highlights! Let’s talk about demand for your time, and your expertise. My clients come to me for the absolute best of the best, so they’re prepped to pay for the best. Not to mention the 10’s of thousands of dollars it takes for continuing education to make sure you’re delivering the absolute best quality work for your clients. In short, do not sell yourself short. Extensions are a luxury service. Hell, so is color! No one NEEDS extensions, they’re a WANT! My advice to hairdressers who are undercharging for their extension services. The only person who you’re hurting is yourself by underpricing. You try everything you can to try and move up the ladder in your career, and by undercharging you’re working harder, longer, and in return you’re being burnt out! Extensions are an investment, and again, not a necessity. If you’re bringing in photos to your stylist of a celebrity hoping they can make your hair look like theirs, I have news for you; they have extensions in too! All of this perfect hair you’re seeing all over instagram, TikTok, red carpets, magazine covers, paparazzi photos, I can assure you it’s 90% extra hair!
