We all wish we could be this Zen when we train. Shout out to @samsaraexperience and @esthersmithdpt I’ve been “strengthening” with them for the past 5 weeks and I’m grateful to have begun a holistic-minded training plan that can compliment my own transitions in climbing and performance. I think I’ve been in transition with my relationship to climbing for the past few years. One important personal metric that has changed is that my climbing success is measured alongside my well being. I want to climb well AND I want to be well. Likewise, I like that Samsara forces you to look at your whole body system. My tailored training plan has me doing some seemingly zainy exercises for a stable, springy body. Alongside this is mobility work and longer low-load hangs to reduce my finger joint inflammation and hopefully even repair some of the tissue. There are plenty of moments that I miss the old me that was willing to be more single-minded in pursuit of a specific achievement. I can even miss my willingness to put my body at greater risk than I usually am now. The “YES, AND” approach was not a welcomed approach by me for much of my climbing and has been a bumpy transition, but I can honestly say that I am participating. And I find that there is spaciousness that can come with this welcoming.
