Today, after a grueling, months-long fight and the mobilization of thousands of people across the county, sex education is back in Miami. I have seen so many losses for our community, for our rights, for our safety, for our existence. This year, with all its attacks against me and the people closest to me, has been absolutely debilitating emotionally and has put me in some of the deepest states of panic and helplessness that I have ever experienced. To come into yet another meeting, another hearing, another long line of red tape where I "knew" I'd lose but showed up anyways to fight the fight, and have a win come so far out of left field, fuels me in ways that few things can. THIS is the power in numbers, in our voices, in our tenacity and dedication to this fight. ALL of that would not be possible without spaces like these that have uplifted me as an organizer, an activist, a nonprofit leader, and most importantly as a young person in a state that continues to make attempts to legislate me out of existence. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for that fuel. This fight as far from over, so I'll sure as hell need it to keep going.
