!?️so the perennial query—what’s BETTER, v@ginal delivery VS cesarean section? 💙EVEN framing it as a “VERSUS” sets it up as a “either/or” and a “there MUST BE A CLEAR CUT WINNER” and guess what, here’s the ANSWER, wait for it, drumroll...... !!️yes, you guessed it, there IS. NO. WINNER. Full stop. 💙it ALL depends on SO many end points—and NO SINGLE END point is THE CORRECT ONE! 💙BOTH births have pros AND cons—and SO if WE in the medical community, the midwifery community, the home birth community AND on social media AND most importantly IN OUR OWN MINDS continue with the faulty rhetoric of “Vaginal birth is BEST—butttttt C-sections are ok too” (similar to our “breast is BEST butttttt formula is ok too” THEN, and hear me out with an OPEN MIND, we’re NEGATING that EACH pregnant person has a DIFFERENT set of end points that often are INFORMED by that person’s body, mind, spirit and EXPERIENCES and that MANY OF THESE can’t be DEFINED OR DELINEATED...(ie are we considering EACH WOMANS experiences that may inform and enable/disable her likelihood of Vaginal birth ie her physical history, psyche, future desire for urinary continence, past history with abuse, and SO many more issues we can’t even SURMISE!) !?️why does this MATTER? Bc the LEGIONS OF info that overtly and tacitly TELL women and birthing people that they SHOULD birth vaginally and SHOULD feed breastmilk and that all else are “acceptable if NEED BE” then each indivual is left to feel she has to steal herself to “not feel bad” or to “accept that she wasn’t able to” do the “IDEAL” even though there may have been SO many reasons for the “ideal” to NOT BE SO. 💙this is NOT a post to say that medicine hasn’t identified CERTAIN benefits to Vaginal births and breastmilk—it is merely to INVITE ALL to consider that setting people up with what is an IDEAL that ignores that each of us MAY actually value endpoints DIFFERENTLY ultimately becomes a bit ANTI-feminist in Creating a space where women STILL feel pressure to perform in ways that are NOT ALWAYS medically, physically or emotionally able to be achieved. 👍ponder it and tell me your thoughts .... #csection #vaginalbirth #allbirthsmatter #vaginaldelivery
