Miss World Uganda 2021 is guest speaker at Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Event
Miss World Uganda 2021, Elizabeth Bagaya had the honour of being a guest speaker at the Menstrual Shebang Fashion Show, the aim of which is to create awareness of the importance of menstrual hygiene and destigmatize period shame. The show was held on 28th May at the Design Hub, Kampala.
The Fashion show was organised by the Wellbeing Foundation and My Period Is Awesome (MPIA), a Menstrual Equity platform which works to improve sexual reproductive health and rights. The show featured collections by seven prominent designers with their creations being based on the theme “no period shame.”
Elizabeth said: “Girls should never feel ashamed of menstruating; the first step is being open about the topic of menstruation (both female and male).
“I encourage girls to feel positive about being menstruating beings. By getting to know ourselves, our cycles and our needs.”
Congratulations Elizabeth, we are so proud of you for not only being an amazing role model speaking out against this important subject, but also the fantastic work you do as a Mental Health Advocate through your Beauty with a Purpose project.
