Amazing memory from 1995 G land comp. Captured by @brainshots Kelly @kellyslater and I were the groms on tour and we looked up to all these guys. @garykongelkerton @barton_lynch @bigbadbobbain @jimbanksurfboards It was my first trip to G Land and it was all mind blowing. Trying to understand all the intricacies of the wave... from tides to wind to swell direction. So much to learn and these guys had it all. I figured if I just hung with them as much as they would let me I would absorb as much as I could. My surfing evolved so much surfing that wave. The down the line speed and the timing it required to do turns in the right part of the wave... and how to find the hollow sections and to know how to shed speed... get deep and come out with as much or more speed than you had. A lot different than Cardiff reef as a grom. Excited to see an event coming back to such a unique wave.
