TW: suicide. Last week in London we got asked what the biggest takeaway from this film process has been. I reflected on rising from the ashes, the necessary deaths that need to take place for new life to emerge. How in my darkest moments where I felt like the film was just going to be a memory of me, I had to remember my story was being told. And I needed to be alive for that. Summer 2020 I almost didn’t make it. I thoroughly believe this film saved my life. Don’t get me wrong, the process has not been linear whatsoever. The challenges that arise with being a documentary subject is something no one could ever really prepare you for, it’s deeply complex, and it absolutely takes a toll. No matter how hard the journey has been to get here - at the end of the day I’m happy to say I’m alive to see it through. For the younger version of myself who needed a movie like this.
