Anyone who knows me, knows how nervous I was and also how hard I worked on this film. It only took 15 years... I don’t usually blow my own trumpet but since this, like all films, has been a collaborative effort, and the result of a multitude of creative visions, please forgive the showoffiness if I post some of the nice comments from reviewers in the knowledge it may well go downhill from here... 😊 The Hollywood Reporter- A Pitch-Perfect Lily James Headlines a Vibrant Multicultural Rom-Com.... What’s Love Got To Do With It? serves as a master class in how to adhere faithfully to the classic romantic-comedy template and yet still emerge with something that delivers delightfully on both sides of the hyphen....Kapur’s soulful touch, working from a knowing script by Jemima Khan, hits all the desired marks... Although there have been previous rom-coms built around family-dictated “assisted” marriages versus the power of attraction, few have managed to so satisfyingly balance the laugh-out-loud funny with the romantic longing and sense of belonging so effectively captured in Kapur’s sensitive direction and Khan’s script. Asian Culture Vulture- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ THIS is a lot of fun – there are lots of good moments but what really raises this film above the usual romcom is its cultural awareness.... this is as sure footed a film of this genre, as you will find this side of Lahore....Jemima Khan’s first debut fiction script is a triumph and is aided by an ensemble cast that is in the finest of fettles... We won’t spoil it for you – this film is entertaining, insightful and deserves to be seen widely.
