Time is a commodity and i have been granted some extra bit to spend. Another round around the sun. This was a big creative year for me, full of breakthroughs and beautiful memories but also bad ideas and stuff that stayed in the drafts. For so long i used to carry the mentality that a birthday was just another day but it’s not. You have 365 days ahead. 365 to see things change, progress, regress at times because progress is not linear and you gotta cut yourself some slack!And finally and most importantly 365 to keep shaping the world you have created for yourself. Every year, i start by thanking my mom for standing by me, with me and for me especially in times where nobody would. The second thanks goes to my siblings, my brother and sister for supporting my endeavors (we all be arguing and debating sometimes). Their continual support is what keeps me going. They encourage me to take chances, try things, see what works and what doesn’t; all that i know i owe it to them. My 22nd year on this planet has been quite a special one so here’s to 23! Thanks to my family’s support and friends and you all that keep up with the journey! To my chosen family: your affirming words are as equally valued. Chosen family = friends, I don’t have family here and you guys made a place so cold feel warm at all times. They have all taught me to do what i like, go after what i want all that in a way that will last me years of joy and stories to tell, doing this while being my most authentic self. This particular year i’ve met a lot of special people, let some things go, picked up where i left off with others and all of this has forced me to learn more about myself. Y’all made me love a black woman (me) from ♾ to ♾! To more celebration, creativity, ideas and fun. And cutting myself some slack!
