🎶✨Super excited to announce that I will be returning to the classroom this fall as the music teacher at New Mission High School this Fall!✨🎶 I am so excited to bring everything I have learned over the last 15 years as a teacher, nonprofit leader, researcher, performer, producer etc etc etc. to this school! The program I am developing with the school’s principal will look very similar to the work you see in this video of when I was at Charlestown High School. Since the program is relatively new, I will also be fundraising for all the equipment, instruments, computers, tech, and other materials we need to have the best music classes possible. Much of this fundraising is actually already done and I am so excited to build up our two spaces thanks to so many generous organizations and private major donors. New Mission (NM) is a small Boston Public high school serving 630 students and families from the diverse neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, and West Roxbury. NM is the highest performing BPS high school that is not an exam school. As the music teacher at this school I will be working with grades 7-12 teaching Piano, Guitar, Ukulele, Bass Guitar, Drum Set, Voice, Music Technology, and MORE! These classes will take place both during the day and more focused and advanced courses will be held each day after school as well. In deciding to return to the classroom, I am committing to making this music program the best of its kind in the country. A space where I can conduct the rest of my research into my PHD program. A space where other music teachers can learn from our students and program about best practices. And most importantly a space that fosters the most caring and supportive environment for young adults to explore what they can do with music and how it can be a part of their life. As I get things settled throughout the Summer, start off the school year, and beyond I will be documenting my journey here on social media and also on a music teacher blog I will be sharing soon!
