It’s Day 29 of my 100 Cities in 100 Days #CEOThankYouTour and I am headed to my 31st city: Jersey City, NJ! 💪🏽🔥 Here are the 3 words on my heart as I kick off this week: JUST. SAY. NO. I say no...A LOT. It's the one thing people who know me well, and those who work alongside me, will tell you. I say no quickly. I say yes, slowly and deliberately. I won't do every speaking engagement. As a matter of fact, I probably accept less than 1% of the requests I receive. I won't do every media interview (I turn down more than I accept). When someone says, “Can I just have 15 minutes of your time,” the answer is no 9 out of 10 times. Why? Because that 15 minutes is needed for the mission I was placed here to finish. If I gave 5, 10 or 15 minutes to everyone who asked, I wouldn’t be able to be out here doing the “impossible” right now. I say no with abandon. I'm not concerned about how others "feel" when I say no. The no is never a disrespect to another person so I will not own how it makes another person feel. My saying no is simply a greater respect for my HBU (highest and best use of time). I cannot live a purpose-driven life while constantly saying yes to things not within my mission. Doesn’t mean what a person is requesting of me is not good. It just means it’s not HBU for me. I know very little about mental health, so I won't speak on that, even though it's #mentalhealthawarenessmonth. I let the experts have that conversation. What I do know is how to say no... without apology.
