When it comes to the health of people and planet, there’s nothing more important than instilling a love of nature in our kids. Our Rad! Traditions after-school program is designed with deep intention to help our community’s children build a positive relationship with the land. Each week offers a holistic experience of The Ecology Center through the lens of the farmer, the chef and the artist, focused around a “learn by doing” activity that aligns with the unique rhythm of the season.
We’re wrapping up the first session of Rad Trad and October brings a new 5-week session focused on the milpa. This trio of corn, beans and squash, also known as The Three Sisters, illustrates the story of collaboration on the land and inspires us to find our own strong qualities that we can weave into our community. Along with studying the practical techniques and philosophical insights of companion planting, we’ll spend time experimenting with these delicious ingredients in the kitchen, incorporate their stems and leaves into weaving projects, and even use them in stamping and screenprinting.
This 5-week program is offered Monday through Thursday from 3:30pm – 5:30pm, with activities adapted to the abilities and interests of each age group. (Mondays: ages 11-14, Tuesdays: ages 7-12, Wednesdays and Thursdays: ages 5-10.) Cost is $150 per child for each 5-week session.
Join us for a one-of-a-kind after-school experience that will nurture a life-long appreciation of the outdoors and help your child explore how people and the environment are connected. Click the link in our bio to register for Rad! Traditions today.
