Our Tuolumne Meadows winter rangers will be back with their weekly reports after the new year, but until then left us with one more update for 2022. While there was no new snow last week, they report that early season ski conditions are excellent. The common ski lexicon of “boot top powder” pretty much sums it up. The snow surface is supportable enough that skis do not penetrate much deeper than six inches. Boot penetration, however, is much deeper and one would not want to currently be caught out in the Sierra Nevada without snow travel tools like skis, split boards or snowshoes.
