This was my first time photographing the TMR. And although I've spent many quality days in the San Juan, I've never really explored the trails surrounding Telluride (I know, shocking), so I went to this race without any idea of locations that I wanted to invest my time at, and that was both exciting and stressful.
Having no real plan, I joined the safety team at 6am on their way up to the iconic Kroger’s Canteen at 13k ft and waited for the first few to come. I stayed there for a good bit and when I realized there weren't any compositions left to explore, I started to make my way towards Mendota Pass and followed the same procedure: explore different compositions at the same location, when there isn't one left, move.
I stayed up there for about 5h shooting, cheering, and talking to the exhausted runners, but once the gap between them became more than 15min I started to make my way down.
Thanks Jared for having me out there creating images, and thanks to the runners for the kind comments you gave me every time you all saw me. Meant a lot!
On my next post I'll discuss a bit about my approach to photographing this race and how it differ from my experience at High Five 100 a couple of weeks prior.
