50 freaking miles ✅ Huge range of thoughts and emotions about this experience. I haven’t covered this distance since August 2019 and it was so much harder than I remember. Both physically and mentally. Honestly, I wanted to quit. I have never wanted to quit a race before. My motivations for ultras, my “why” was severely challenged out there and it sent me into a tailspin that I’m still reeling from. I could simply share the stats and celebrate my finish (I will still do that) but I also want to be raw and honest about the lows as much as the highs. I think we’ve all been through a helluva lot the past few years. My own personal struggles have changed running for me. It all feels the same yet vastly different. Maybe it’s the comeback from injury, an aging body or a shift in priorities. I don’t really know for sure.
