7.9.2022 i was driving back from the animal flower cave in saint lucy barbados when i saw a farmer standing in a watermelon patch. i immediately pulled over and started conversing with him about how many farms, crops and trees i've been noticing during this particular trip. when i was younger, i remember a time when barbados's economy was heavily agricultural and didn't rely solely on tourism. when i was a boy i remember driving and seeing sugarcane crops for what seemed like forever. sometime in the 1970s - 1980s the island shifted its major draw towards tourism but, during the pandemic the caribbean got slammed financially because of lockdowns and no tourists visiting the island. all of the people i spoke to in the fields tending to the land during this trip all agree they are going back to an agricultural based business for the foreseeable future. #barbados #stlucy #stlucybarbados #caribbean #farm #farming #farmer #vegetables #fruits #plants #country #theland #island #myhappyplace #farmlife #streets #streetphotography #photographer #photography #fujifilmimages #fujifilm #fujifilmx100v #classicchrome
