Whenever Andrea (@gargalisandrea) 🌾 and I have ourselves a reunion, I sometimes wonder how we even create art together. We laugh more than we talk. Talk more than we shoot. Shoot more than we worry about actually getting anything done. The first time, at her home in Berlin, we only had three hours together. Naturally, we talked for the first hour. On the second hour, we decided to play a game of Chess for an hour, which I barely made it out alive if it wasn’t for strokes of ridiculous luck. Andrea always had stories to share with me about herself, for just about anything. I loved that. I would spill over some of my life dilemmas and in her lovely way, “oh Sam” and naturally proceed to soothe my anxiety out of my body. For what I try to give to other models, comfort them by listening, unconditionally love them, create an trusting environment to feel safe, Andrea did that for me. When we did finally did get to taking portraits, it would never last long. It was over before we even started searching. The “moment”, or the creative journey that every photographer begins together with the model, searching for, and hopefully, because sometimes it doesn’t come, but when it does, make every photographer screams “yes, yes, that’s the one, this is it”, while simultaneously the model holds onto their pose for dear life. Andrea and I would almost immediately arrive. I would start overthinking, well the ride isn’t over, should I shoot more? But then we start talking again, and the next thing you know, we’re laughing again. So when we Andrea and I agreed to go into a forest by a lake, I couldn’t say no to catching up with her 🪷
