absolutely floored by the breadth of cuban work on display at jorge perez's newish exhibition space @elespacio23. historic and contemporary, by artists from pinar to santiago, living and long gone, residents still and exiliados. when i was a boy, my mother introduced me to the work of amelia pelaez, whose paintings i recognized from the pages of revista bohemia. the second i saw this work, from 1950, i was stopped in my tracks. here are the stained glass that i remember, the ironwork, the color, all the hallmarks of cuban architecture, abstracted and immediately evocative. a treasure 🇨🇺
