Second Place - The International Landscape Photograph of the Year 2020. Almost all of you have seen this image before, but I couldn't help but post it once again, because it has won me an award that I could have only dreamt of. Second place out of 3881 submissions in a competition, which sees landscape photos of maximum artistic quality ever produced all over the world, is nothing less than a miracle for me. From yesterday morning, I had all the congratulatory messages pouring in from different corners of the world. I have been receiving messages from people I have looked up as an idol and inspiration from the very early days. It has been a happy, joyful day, and it definitely took some time for the feeling to sink in. Just a month before covid appeared in this world, I put up a large 30x40 print of this photo in my own bedroom. As a hobbyist photographer who hardly gets to travel as much as he wants to, this print served as my biggest motivation on my bad days. For six straight months this year, I haven’t left my apartment and looked at this picture at least a thousand times to remind myself of the best of times. The times spent behind a camera making images. A huge thank you to the jury for choosing my images as the runner up. Being the first Indian to win this coveted prize feels absolutely surreal.
