Last night we wandered through the streets of old Rio and the Lapa neighborhood where, 22 years ago, I was invited to sit in and play drums on a song with Cassia Eller. That show is now history but last night brought it all back. It was loud and raucous, people partying in the streets, and it all began with this Candomble ceremony under the old aqueduct. This ceremony was honoring Exu and the other African Orixas (Gods/Saints), which I had studied a long time ago. Incredible beauty and power in these people. Photo by Silvia Machete @silvia.machete
