Royal Mourning following the death of Queen Elizabeth II continues until Monday. Today we’re looking at examples of mourning attire and jewellery from the Royal Collection.
Image 1 is a painting of Mary, Queen of Scots wearing white mourning. The painting is on display at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. White as a mourning colour was common among medieval European queens.
Image 2 is a photograph from 1862 showing Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s daughters gathered around a bust of their father, who had died a few months previously.
Image 3 is a mourning brooch from around 1901, that contains a miniature of Queen Victoria.
