๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿฅ’ It's Dave's Market Update time! ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿฅ’ Welcome to the first instalment for 2023! "There is a plethora of excellent fruit options this week. Limes are in great supply and with lemons being expensive they represent fantastic value. The cherry season is running two weeks late due to the cold winter and milder spring. Volumes are increasing and the recent dry conditions have seen eating quality back to its best. In order to take advantage of this extra fruit, all stores will feature a fantastic weekend promotion on cherries. Pineapples have been expensive for an extended period of time, however we have topless pines at a great price in all stores. Theyโ€™re coming out of Yeppoon, Queensland, where there is a flush of smaller sized fruit and are amazingly sweet and refreshing. White grapes are excellent, especially Menindee Seedless. The majority of the fruit is coming out of the St George region in Queensland. This season the quality has been superb, with milder growing conditions bringing out flavour and keeping vines yielding very well. Plenty of good options in stone fruit with both peaches and nectarines well supplied in the markets. Yellow nectarines from Swan Hill and Shepparton would be my pick in stone fruit. Honey gold mangoes from Far North Queensland are the standout in mangoes. Plenty of good things happening in berries but the picks for me are raspberries and blackberries from Tasmania for quality and price. Itโ€™s the first full week of the year in the wholesale markets and we are seeing supply strong across a wide range of categories in veg. Recent good weather and last weekโ€™s full moon have seen many crops in the Sydney basin flourish. Kale, silverbeet, shallots, coriander, herbs and Asian veg are great in quality and supply. Baby cukes are in excellent supply and, with Lebanese cucumber prices on the move upwards, they represent great value. The tomatoes category is still well supplied, with truss tomatoes representing the best value for money. In snacking tomatoes itโ€™s hard to go past Sampari cherry truss and sweets delights."
