I knew I would love Iceland. But I didn’t expect to fall magically in love with myself in Iceland. I found her here — this girl I once knew but somehow lost along the way. Along the crowd, the noise, the superficial, the calculations and fear. She who was carefree. Who didn’t flinch at rain-drenched clothes. Who saw the unknown and met fear with an embrace and giggle. Who laughed at herself until her belly ached, unafraid of confidence. Who ate it all, drank it all. Looked at a rainbow, a butterfly, a tiny mundane piece of nothing and marveled. And I mean truly, whole heartedly child-likely marveled. I found her here. Just as how i remembered her to be. Waiting this whole time. For me to let go. To run. Where? Who knows. To eat. Let’s try this. Let’s climb that. Just trust. Just breathe. Get drenched. Feel this. Hold that. Now close your eyes. Jump. Scream. Do you feel that? For so long, I’ve forgotten. Thank you for bringing me home to the parts of myself I thought Ive lost forever. I knew I would love Iceland. I thought I’d be discovering the world. But I ended up re-discovering myself. I’ll never be the same.
