Ron’s coffee accoutrements (gratis Veronika) with one of his specialties — ice coffee (NOT iceD— Alan Jones ranted about that for two hours at Robin des Bois) with coffee ice cubes, heavy cream, and (optimally) simple syrup. Hone your life to hone your art, a well known precept of the self indulgent stoic ascetic — we need at least to double the amount of words to have words for what lies between words, such as everything really, which Ron managed to roll into one pretty miraculously, given the preposterous program, tasteful and harmonious oxymoron — as in his rough hewn live in studio he truly perfected what he called “minimal luxury”. As with all art, much is lost when it’s wrenched from its context, the holy shrines where it epitomizes the credo that it illuminates and where it serves as a portal to the revered source of what it reveres while being irreverent to everything else. That studio was indeed a holy place that is now converted to serve commercial interests after all its anomalies were effaced — like in that Twilight zone episode where, when you come of age, you choose one of six offered Hollywood faces, and if you resist for some incomprehensibly perverse reason, you will be sent to the brain rearranger. Such is pretty much the fate today of the faces of places. The dead ones do not Rest In Peace but réel in grief over this travesty like Giotto’s angels at the Crucifixion. Well when the west wind howls as it must in its ever returning season, at least the ode to it ends on a positive note. So go ahead and brew, ice, and savor some coffee ice ice coffee in leisure fearless of any imminent dilution and know that, along with that of its creator, the spirit of that cruelly crucified place lives and is still and will forever be among us, whether we sufficiently support its efforts to guide us back home or not.
