"The concept is a stirring, intimate study of an artist, which avoids the shield of a glossy style in order to draw the audience into the vulnerable rawness of singer/songwriter Indigo Sparke. My challenge... could I capture the waves of Indigo’s emotional landscape, with the limitation of a one day shoot, in a single location, with no other talent? Iain and I combined a bunch of short ends and left over 35mm stock to shoot on film. Some stock was 4+ years old and not stored in a fridge so was a bit of a gamble. Shooting film requires a level of focus and presence because of the finite amount you have to shoot. You can’t be lazy. It demands choices and commitment. And brings an element of mysticism from the delayed gratification. There’s no better moment than getting your scans back after the blur and high of being on set, and finding what you captured has exceeded your expectations. That was my experience with this one."
