@degrawsound celebrates 10 years today. It’s the studio I came up in - the first place I ever had my own room, and the place where I started my career in music. My brother @benricemusic opened and built this studio, and graciously asked me if I wanted a room there when construction was done. He had enough space for a 100 sq. foot production room, which was plenty. I immediately said okay, not really knowing what I was getting myself into or how to turn it into a business. I got clients off of Craigslist and would engineer for just about anyone. I got screwed out of money multiple times, and met some pretty questionable people (sorry mom, I didn’t tell you this part), but it was amazing. I’d record my band Viva Mayday on the off hours, as well as friends who needed an engineer. I had no idea how to EQ, compress, or do anything, but Ben would send me mid session texts on what frequency to pull out of a snare drum - that helped a lot. I went on to meet so many amazing people and artist in that space, who I’m still friends with to this day. Ben and @harperjamesx have been holding it down at Degraw, and just renewed the lease for another decade! So many magical records have come out of there, and it remains my favorite studio to go back to when I’m in town. I still call it home and I don’t think that will ever change. If you’re ever in NY/Brooklyn and need a studio, that’s the one! Congrats to the whole Degraw team. Love you guys and here’s to another 10 years of magic!
