HYDRA 4/4 FULL CREDITS AND DETAILS ON PREVIOUS POSTS The conception of HYDRA came from my fascination with the alchemical documentations of rites and seances in middle-century engravings, seances for me are performative narratives based around the primordial activities and cycles of the spirit, one of the subjects that continues to excite me is the synthesis between body and metaphysics. In the case of Hydra, this particular synthesis was the carnal comparison of beast and body. Many of the performances characters were based around Greek and Egyptian feminine figures who were within fiction depicted as beasts of nature, which were deemed as icons of superficial evil due to their appearances. I think that an inherent part of myth is to re-invent fiction, I found that these beasts were marginalised entities, I think they're beautiful, so I was instead interested in collecting these figures and creating a séance of mythologies that would explore the collective insemination of a liberating dark energy. For HYDRA I was given more time than I have ever been given to conceive and develop the performance, which allowed me time to create a 9 foot tall sculpture which all performers emerged from. Ultimately, the duration was a similar case of proactive racing, with many close-shaves along the way, I am absolutely grateful to everyone who supported me along the way of making this performance, I have to thank my excellent cast, the event organisers who gave me more time and freedom than I have ever been given before, to the musicians who created such lyrically evocative sounds within such short schedules, and to @belledlbrt for creating and altering the absolutely show stealing red mask for the Hathor character. If it were not for everyone's support, this performance would have not worked, and exist as it does now for all of you here on the screen.
