I just watched The Woman King and it is Oscar worthy 🎥 for so many reasons. I was not ready for the emotional journey that left me feeling inspired and with a reminder of our stories untold as a community and our greatness as Black women. The Woman King is a 2022 American historical epic film about the Agojie, the all-female warrior unit who protected the West African kingdom of Dahomey during the 17th to 19th centuries. Set in the 1820s, the film stars Viola Davis as a general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies. 🙅🏽‍♀️⚔️👑👸🏾#thewomanking @womankingmovie P.S. there’s a post cred scene, and there's some things I would have loved to have been included but overall it starts a conversation that we ALL should research the history on our own and explore it's context and decide for ourselves.
