Monday’s expedition into the bowels of #RozzolMelara on the edge of #Trieste, where from 1969-82 a hillside “independent village” of around 500 units for 2500 people was constructed with four tower slabs with interior “streets,” all surrounding an immense quadrangle with community and other functions linked by bridges. Designed with the best of intentions by a team led by #CarloCelli, let’s just say it has had its ups and downs over the years—my taxi driver did a double-take when I asked to be taken there—and is a totally astonishing example of the complex legacy of #brutalism and #socialhousing.
