2 Sutton Place Marilyn lived in Suite E8 on the 8th floor at 2 Sutton Place in New York (on the corner of East 57th and Sutton Place South) after she moved out of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in 1955. Upon marrying Arthur Miller in 1956, they moved to 444 East 57th street, which was just up the block from 2 Sutton Place. Photographers hovered in June of 1956 when Miller announced his intentions to marry Marilyn, much to her surprise. He hadn’t even formally proposed to her. She answered their questions just outside her apartment, and then later Marilyn and Arthur held a press conference near the entrance of the building to discuss wedding plans. Today, the building is undergoing renovations as scaffolding is present. Thanks to @julieafarin for these current photos! ❤️ Interesting point of note, 2 Sutton Place is located just minutes away from the actual building used as the location of the leased apartment in 1953’s How to Marry a Millionaire. The building is seen the in film’s opening scene. It’s a one minute walk between the locations. Fascinating to think that a fictional location in one of Marilyn’s films shot in Hollywood was basically right next door to an actual building she’d call home on the other side of the country just two years later. #marilynmonroe
