takes one good selfie and makes it everyone’s problem
the best thing I did for my body dysmorphia was limit my use of Instagram filters (same goes for TikTok). The fun ones are cute but the ones that ever so slightly alter your features can be such a crutch. It gets to a point where you’re almost confused and disappointed when you see yourself without one because your brain is convinced that you look like your filtered version.
It can be hard and the internet is not always kind but if you even start posting filter free photos on CF until you get used to seeing yourself again it will do wonders (also keep in mind that photos can distort your face, so be gentle – a big part of why I love video is because I think it captures things more accurately).
I don’t post my face often (not because it doesn’t eat, but usually because I like finding art in other things, focusing on the details in my outfits, or I’m awkwardly looking at my phone’s tripod) but when I take pictures, I’m content with what I see (a huge flex that I couldn’t have claimed 3 years ago).
[Albeit this washroom has phenomenal lighting, I’ve recently had a facial, my cheeks are nice & flush because I had just run up a flight of stairs, and this camera has some sort of smoothing effect that I can’t turn off, but still]
Sharing this because I know my demo is a lot of younger girls / women my age who are constantly playing comparison olympics with the king kylie’s of the world. Body acceptance is the goal, not apologizing for not wearing makeup is the goal, posting what you want while you’re young & hot is the goal.
