πŸ₯§πŸ¦‡batty apple pieπŸ¦‡πŸ₯§ one of our favorite traditions every fall is to go to an apple orchard, pick apples, drink cider, and come home to make a homemade apple pie (served with vanilla ice cream of course!) the home smells soooo delicious, and it’s a fun way to make a tradition come full circle. i’ve changed my apple pie recipe up over the years to be a bit healthier (with less sugar), but all in all this is my go to recipe. let me know if you try it! 🍎 either make your favorite pie dough recipe the day before to cut down on prep time or use store bought pre made pie crust. 🍎 peel and cut up a mixture of 8-12 honeycrisp (sweet) + granny smith (sour) apples. 🍎 melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter on stove. 🍎 slowly stir in 3 tblsp flour until the mixture becomes a thick paste. 🍎 slowly stir in 1/4 cup white sugar (i’ve removed this from our recipe), 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 tspn cinammon, 1/4 cup water, a dash of salt, and bring to a boil. 🍎 bring to a low simmer for 2 minutes. 🍎 form bottom pie crust and pour in apples. 🍎 pour sauce over all apples. 🍎 cover the apples and sauce with your leftover dough. i use cookie cutters to make stars and bats. 🍎 bake at 425 for 15 minutes then reduce to 350 and bake an additional 35-45 minutes until apples are soft. 🍎 eat and enjoy! stay tuned for later today where i share what we do with our apple peels and cores! πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ’‘πŸ€”
