Under pressure from the Indigenous movement, the Ecuadorian government has declared a temporary moratorium on all new oil and mining concessions! In these times of climate crisis, this is encouraging news. But it's still NOT enough. The government of @guillermolasso has only suspended its plans for new oil and mining for ONE YEAR. So over the next 12 months, there's a huge amount of work to do ⏳ If Ecuador is actually serious about complying with its international obligations on climate change, and its national commitments to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, it must END the expansion of ALL new oil & mining activity across Indigenous territories & guarantee Indigenous peoples' right to decide over their territories!
