I spent much of my childhood in Bushwick Brooklyn hanging with my cousin Charlene. Starr Street to be exact. I won’t get into specifics but this is the place where I first learned to drive at 11yrs old. I remember those days like it was yesterday. Years later as I started learning about exercise and nutrition I worked with a couple of health experts (Juan and Leslie) and we conducted a survey to learn about the eating habits and health conditions of this specific community. That was over 15 years ago but something keeps calling me back to this community. I’m grateful to make connections with like minded and passionate people that are open to supporting our organization and our mission to get our communities healthy. On Saturday @oldmanrunclub and @artists.athletes.activists filled bags with fresh produce and distributed them to families in the local community. Music was playing loud and keeping us moving thanks to @scorpionrecordsnyc There were dominoes available for anyone that wanted to yell CAPICU! Courtesy of @capicutheparty This all went down at a beautiful location in Bushwick Brooklyn with a Nuyorican themed mosaic mural that reads “Aqui Me Quedo” The space is called “Carmelo Sanchez Way” named after its founder Carmelo Sanchez.
