THE MUSIC OF PRIMA MATERIA I'm incredibly excited (and nervous) to share the music that I wrote for PRIMA MATERIA. It's the result of many years of quiet work. Countless failures that eventually led to a few successes. From the outset of this endeavor, I wanted to create something where dance was demanded by the music rather than incidental to it--equal parts of the same vision. Too often dance is seen as derivative or subordinate to the music accompanying it, as so many of us have experienced with our work being unceremoniously pulled for copyright infringements. When the @philadelphia_ballet asked me to create a new work for them, I felt like I was finally ready to put years of practice to the test. I came into rehearsals with one song complete, writing the rest on the nights and mornings when not in the studio, and the choreography and music emerged as one over the next few weeks. I have to thank @yfuchs & @spencerhmusic for helping me bring this project to a place I couldn't have imagined on my own. I hope you enjoy the music but even more I hope it makes you want to dance.
