We're joining @prospect_park in celebrating Tree Appreciation Month! We aren’t picking favorites, but JBRPC has become quite taken to the #RedMaple, the most common tree in the US. There are many reasons to love the red maple – it is adaptable to varying soil conditions, it collects hundreds of gallons of stormwater per year, and it stores carbon dioxide in its trunk, leaves, and roots. The red maple is also one of the plants our student #communityscientists are monitoring to track the impact of climate change in our parks, in our partnership Phenology education program with @gatewaynps.
