Episode 49 of Books Are Pop Culture - "Jamaicans Are The Best" ft. Jonathan Escoffery (@esco_out_n_play) is available on the Books Are Pop Culture YouTube Channel as well as your favorite podcast platform.
Congratulations are in order to Jonathan Escoffery as his story collection, If I Survive You, was recently acknowledged in a way that a collection of its caliber should be because it was longlisted for the National Book Award. You all should do yourself a favor and get your copy immediately because his collection is a classic.
In this clip, Jonathan discusses theory vs practice. How sometimes, when you think too much, you forget to actually move and get work done. He also includes a bit about how Education in America, at least as the system is currently constructed, will not save us.
This is also another reason for you to read If I Survive You, because one thing that collection drives home with the reader is that learning may not always result in action, but action will always result in learning.
What are your thoughts on Theory vs. Practice?
What are your thoughts on the American education system? Is it a golden ticket? Can it be a golden ticket? Will it save us?
