For this piece my time period was a reimagined baroque. I never realized how racist baroque was. It was the drama of it that was interesting to me but whew yeah it was a period. Wanted to make this painting as dramatic and over the top as my painting style allows 🐠 🧟🧝🏾🧚🏿‍♀️🕊🧜🏾 The assignment was about critiquing history (im early). I was thinking about ancient christian texts, the idea of a fallen angel and the depiction/description of black people in these texts. It was interesting to make some research while giving my own interpretation and spin on the idea. I don’t have a close relationship with christianity but i grew up in a country that is mostly christian and have seen the way it influenced a lot of people’s way of thinking not my cup of tea but interesting to think about.
