Dr. Jane Goodall Barbie joins the Inspiring Women series! This Barbie captures young Jane Goodall circa 1960 when she first entered the Gombe National Forest in Tanzania. The chimpanzee that comes with Jane Barbie was modeled specifically after David Greybeard, the first chimp to ever trust Jane. Throughout the development process, Sir Greybeard has become somewhat of an icon internally at Mattel lol. We worked directly with @janegoodallinst to make sure Jane Barbie and the figure of David Greybeard were accurate. If you told me years ago when I started at Mattel that I would one day know so much about chimpanzees and lowkey be Mattel’s resident chimp expert, I’d be like gurl wut, gurl why, gurl how?! But here I am lol. Did you know that when you see a chimp ‘smiling’ with their teeth in a movie or tv show, they’re trained to do that because naturally that’s an expression of fear or aggression? There’s your brain wrinkle for the day! The doll is made@from at least 75% recycled ocean-bound plastic, something that was extremely important to Dr. Goodall! I used a lot of my learnings from working on the Barbie Loves the Ocean in this Jane Barbie. Recycled plastic is more brittle than ‘regular’ plastic, so we had to go with a less articulated body for this doll because the extra joinery wouldn’t work in recycled plastic. As with any Barbie, it takes a village. Shout to my Marketing partners @itsme_amyg & @elevynbraun, my boss @lindakyaw_m, my Product development & schedule partner @martha_romoe and the amazing Packaging designer @missdianaleto! And those are just the people that are taggable on the gram! ❤️‍🔥 ... #barbie #barbiesignature #inspiringwomen #janegoodall #janegoodallinstitute #chimpanzee #davidgreybeard
