On my drive up to Canada, I was listening to @climbinggold and was reminded of some advice that always seems to be lingering in the back of my mind...
“Sport climbing makes the big adventures easier” - @alexhonnold
Looking back, 2020 was the best year of climbing I’ve ever had. It was also the year that I went sport climbing the most... From Spain, Joshua Tree, Mexico, Lake Tahoe, Ten Sleep, Wild Iris, Rifle, and the VRG, I had major breakthroughs across the board in my training, bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing, and big-wall climbing. It was awesome!!!
Unfortunately, it feels like I’ve lost some momentum and consistency in my climbing the last two years, but this timely reminder has helped me readjust my mindset and make some serious changes for the future. I’ve been training a lot over the last 5 weeks here in Squamish and look forward to the next few seasons ahead!
To top off my psych, I’ve been reminiscing about some of my favorite moments from 2020, most of which I plan to share with you here, along with a few Reels, if possible 🙃
First up is “Mortal Kombat” (13d) at Space Invaders, which was my local crag during quarantine in South Lake Tahoe. Over a 6 week period, I was able to climb all of the routes there, along with a number of different link-ups and variations. Granite sport climbing is my favorite and this is definitely one of the best (and hardest) routes there! My first of the grade, too.
