This may be an unpopular opinion, but that’s never stopped me before. Strikes me as total over-kill and counter-productive to attack #willychavarria, a proud MEXICAN-American designer, who has been a staunch supporter of his community, for making Mexican inspired shoe-wear. I mean, the freaking guy just staged a whole damn fashion show in Paris, attacking cruel ICE raids. And we gonna force him to apologize for making a sandal-sneaker thing that represents HIS heritage? How can you culturally appropriate your own culture? 🤷🏻‍♀️ We seem to love to eat our own. This is the same thing my Latino community did to @lin_manuel over “In the Heights”. You know what that achieved? Making it harder for Hollywood studios to want to take-on Latino projects. At a time when so many companies are bending the knee to Trump and getting rid of anything that so much as faintly smells of diversity, I ain’t about to get mad with @adidas for a collaboration with a Chicano designer. So, peeps, I’m gonna focus on criticizing Trump and his thugs terrorizing our community, and cut Willy Chavarria some slack. Mis dos centavos (my two cents). Getting off my soap-box, now. ❤️
