Sometimes, family chooses you through DNA. Sometimes, family chooses you just because. Maybe because you're you. Maybe because they're them. My dad has always been a beautiful example of that, which is why I've been open to those moments when new family reveals itself. 🙏🏽💗 It's hard to explain when or how @josephgonzalezroa became family, but he did. Like the bonus little brother I didn't know I needed. Between the laughter, the iron sharpening iron, the pursuit of creative/career goals & purpose... it's been such a joy to watch him grow, and I'm so proud of who he's becoming. The day of the L.O.V.E. Awards, he asked me very intentionally how he could be my pillar. Not just a pillar, in general, but specifically a pillar to me. And little did I know when I needed it most, the answer revealed itself. Little bro turned into big bro, and his pillar status was activated as he helped me in an hour of need. Every dynamic is different; friends & loved ones show up for each other in various ways. We can often miss the ways someone can show up for us because we expect them to show up in other ways. But when you trust and let people show up for you how they can, when they have capacity, & how they do best, they can show up for you in your hour of need the same way, if not more critically, than they can show up for you in your hour of accolades. It meant the world to have Joseph at the L.O.V.E. Awards, but it meant even more to see how he became the pillar I needed when I needed it most, without me knowing how to ask. Joseph....... I am grateful you were born. I am grateful you are here. I am grateful you're in my life. I am grateful to witness another year of your personal growth & professional development from the courtside seats of your life. You can do GREAT things, I'm so proud of you & I know you're just getting started!!!
