Pretending that their belly is a balloon is one of my FAVORITE ways to teach deep breathing to little ones. 🎈🎈🎈 The key to mastering (and getting all the benefits of) deep breathing is to engage your diaphragm. Your diaphragm is a muscle right under your lungs that helps you breathe. If you are not using your diaphragm to breathe, you’re likely breathing through your chest...which might leave you feeling MORE anxious! So, to make sure you’re engaging your diaphragm, take big belly breaths. If your belly is visibly going up and down as you’re breathing, you’re probably doing your deep breathing correctly!
